Distributed Storage System Clients

Data is stored in the Distributed Storage System though a series of block, file and object clients. Each client has unique features and benefits according to their application.

Block Volume Client

The DSS Block Volume Client with integrated caching technology exposes a block devices to host operating systems or a hypervisor. These block devices can be formatted and used as if they were locally attached disks. The DSS Block Volume Client caches most frequently accessed data blocks locally on the host using a combination of solid state and hard disk drives, providing the necessary I/O performance for primary data operation. In parallel, the client stores all data blocks on the distributed storage system, which guarantees data availability and scalability.

By offering this block device client, B-Virtual is the first to combine the required performance for primary storage with the high availability and ease of management of a distributed storage system.

Object Storage Interfaces

B-Virtual offers a series of object storage clients, which expose standard NFS, WebDAV, BRS2 and Zimbra interfaces. These interfaces have been developed on top of the BizangaStore carrier-grade, massively scalable object storage front-end.
